Earthcom employs high end electronics and testing equipment for sweep testing. Sweep testing is done to trouble shoot lines, jumpers and connectors and uses a method of generating and transmitting test signals over the system. Proper testing will prevent the many costly problems that come from poor installations. Sweep testing of cable is the method used to test and verify the characteristics of a cable or device across a range of frequencies. One test is return loss which is signal attenuation caused by impedance variations in the structure of a cable or associated connection parts. These variations cause the signal to reflect (return) back to the source. Sweep Testing is a way of verifing system integration and performance of the antennas. A bad connector, an defective jumper, or uneven cable tension, for example, can cause reflection and affect the signal wavelength. Cable flaws not noticeable to the naked eye can also affect the signal and cause reflection. By interpreting these reports the customer knows if their transmit/receive is performing to the designed installation or if it meets performance specifications. |
